Searching for the best price
Why do prices vary?
There are many reasons why premiums differ so widely but the most common are:
- The policies offered have different levels of cover and excess levels. In this case quotes are not like for like and so the price will vary. Make sure you understand what is included in your policy, what is not and the excess levels applied if you have to make a claim.
- Insurance companies may see some types of people as more attractive than others and so price accordingly. Shopping around enables you to find the best fit with you.
Should I just choose the cheapest?
Not necessarily. The cover is likely to vary and therefore it is important for you to choose the insurance policy that best meets your needs.
Will I get a better rate if I automatically renew with my current insurer?
No. It has become normal practice among most insurance companies to offer the most competitive rates to new customers – to win their business. As a result those renewing with their current insurer could be missing out on some great savings.
My renewal has arrived-- is it too late to change insurers?

Type of insurance
Is comprehensive cover for only new cars?
No. Many people believe that as a car gets older that comprehensive cover becomes too expensive for the value of the car, but our experience is that this is not always true. The cost of comprehensive cover drops as your cars gets older and so it provides you with excellent cover at a fair price.
Will I lose my bonus malus by changing insurer?
No. Insurers will match your existing bonus malus years. You may be asked for proof of your entitlement which you can get from your renewal notice or by simply asking your current insurance company.
